About this place
The Stone Doors lie near the Mahanavami Dibba in Hampi's Royal Enclosure. Each massive leaf was carved from a single block of granite, complete with imitation wooden panels, lotus-bud studs, bolt sockets and pivot shafts. Their original doorway has not been identified, but their scale indicates an entrance to an important royal building; the surviving leaves are now displayed on low supports so both carved faces can be examined.
