About this place

Vittala Bazaar, historically called the Pan Supari (betel and areca) Bazaar, is the long market avenue that once guided pilgrims and traders along Kampa Bhupa's Path toward the Vittala Temple. Granite colonnades and isolated pavilions — including two-storey mandapas and small shrines with lamp pillars — mark where merchants sold pan, spices and festival goods. The street runs through palm groves and boulder fields on the Tungabhadra's north bank, growing grander as it approaches the temple complex and the King's Balance. Most roofs have collapsed, but the surviving pavilions, reflected in seasonal pools after rain, are among the most photogenic ruins in Hampi.
