About this place

Pampavana is the garden the dam board laid out at Munirabad in a Japanese manner: raked gravel, water, arched bridges, clipped planting and stone lanterns, kept green in a district that is not. It is a strange and rather lovely thing to find three kilometres from the dam wall, and it is where local families go on a Sunday. It takes about an hour to walk properly. Pair it with the dam and the fountain and the whole thing becomes an afternoon and evening rather than a detour.

Good to know

  • A small entry fee, collected at the gate.
  • Best late in the afternoon, when the heat drops and the light gets long. There is little shade at midday.
  • About 3 km from the dam wall — do the two together.
  • It is a laid-out garden, not a wild one. Keep to the paths.
